Event Details

This guided ride will explore the lower Grwyne Valley in the heart of the Black Mountains, we will experience some fantastic trails including the Blaen yr Henbant descent.

The ride will start with a relatively easy zig-zag climb up through the Mynydd Du forest & out onto the open moor, from here it be a brief visit to the summit of Crug Mawr with its great views of the Sugar Loaf & the rest of the Black Mountains range.  We now hit the Blaen yr Henbant descent, more than 3 km of super flowy single-track, followed by a rocky chute to join the road. It’s then a series of small lanes & bridleways along the valley floor, until we climb steeply up onto the Ffawyddog ridge.  Once on the ridge we will pass the Gaer hill fort & the Stone of Revenge, where we will pause for a bit of local history! The ride then continues along the ridge & back into the forest, where we will descend back to the car park.

Distance – 27 Km

Ascent – 850 m

The  ride will start in the Pont Cadwgan car park, but at the end we will head to the Skirrid Inn, Wales’ oldest pub for a pint.
