The Elan Valley has got a little bit of everything, from mellow to crunchy climbs, & sweeping grassy descents, plus a few rocky ones too! Here is your chance to come & explore with us for a FREE 2 Days riding, or if you fancy just come for 1!
This is a free trip & you will have to find your own accommodation or just drive in for the day.
Day 1 – Saturday
Timings: 10.00am to 3.30pm
Length: 25-30km
Height gained : Approx 800m
Graded ride : Red
The Saturday ride will meet in the central carpark in Rhayader (LD6 5AL) & aim to start riding at 10.30am. The route will take us west out of town & up the Penrhiw-Wen road climb as far as the waterfalls. From here is left & over Crugyn Ci, then down to the Penygarreg Dam. The route will then follow the old railway up to the Craig Goch reservoir then climb back over Esgair Perfedd to descend past the Roman Camp to the road. It’s then up the road to join a less travelled track & join the Nannerth bridleway down to the Wye Valley, to join the minor road & return to town.
Day 2 – Sunday
Timings 10.00am – 2.30pm
Length: 20 km
Height gained : Approx 500m
Graded ride : Red
The Sunday ride will start at the Elan Village Visitors Centre (LD6 5 HP) & aim to start riding at 10.30am. This route will take us up the road to join the Ty’n y Pant bridleway through the Nant y Gro splash to Dolymynach & the Llannerch Cawr farmstead. The route will then join the watery Byway to the Claerwen Dam where we might get a bit wet! From the dam it’s up the bridleway to the research station masts & down to the forest. There is then the option to run the Nantgwyllt red or blue tracks down to the church, before joining the old railway line back to the visitor’s centre.
